Preliminary Task -

For my preliminary task i had to create a school magazine which was aimed at a demographic of parents, children and teachers. i had to create to pages which are shown on the right, the first page is the front page which i design and the image below in my content page of the magazine. For the magazine i had to take photos, create stories and have a colour scheme, below i will tell you how i did this. I had to have chosen the colours black blue and yellow, due to these colours relating to the school, Rooks Heath. The image on the front cover may appeal to the students reading this magazine as it could encourage them to go to their school prom, when they reach year 11.
I have followed the codes and conventions of a front cover due to me placing my masthead on the top of the page, followed by image and featured stories, for the parents and students to look at.
These buzz stories should appeal to the parents, to encourage them to get the magazine, as  they would be updated with things to help their child/children at school.

The event days on the front page would encourage the children to participate in these events, to make this more fun.
BUZZ words such as ‘Revision’ and ‘Snow’ will alert parents that there are safety tips for their children in the snow, and also help for their children with revision, for the best chance in
Succeeding. Teachers may find the front page appealing as they believe it could help with their students improve in exams also teachers could find out about the upcoming events, and what else has been happening within the school.
Whereas for my contents page,  I have followed the  codes and conventions due to  me including the names of the pages and their numbers next to them, making this easier for the readers to find and view each page. I have also included some photos of the school, students within the school, and photos of students and their peers.
On my photos, I have followed the codes and conventions by adding the page number on the photos, to direct the readers to the correct page, relating to the pictures.

On both pages, I have included the house style colours, which will allow the parents teachers and students to be more aware to look out for these colours in the school, which they can then relate these colours to Rooks Heath.
My school magazine i used the uses and gratification theory, i did this by adding what my audience need to read my magazine. This first thing i did was the information i did this by finding out what my demographic liked and what is happening and then written features from this. The next use i did was entertainment i tried to grow an interest by using images and the a colour scheme which would be different but fit into the demographics interest. The next use i did was personal identification this was done by doing different story lines for the three of my demographics.
In my magazine i did not use no hyper reality concept because this magazine had to relate to a school audience and not a glamour magazine, for my magazine i think i took appropriate pictures as all ages can relate to them.
In this preliminary task i went against the mode of address of the use of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs as i felt this magazine used the hierarchy to opposite way, it was not about the dreams and aspirations of my audience it was more about their needs of everyday life and the information they needs about the school.
My school magazine appeals to all of my demographics as i have different features which appeal to each age. I used the colour scheme of the school to relate to the parents so they can relate to the school name. I used important story such as revision so teachers can add and relate to the magazine. I used event which would attract more children to read the magazine and find out what's happening. I think the magazine followed the demographics of people and that all my audiences can relate to my magazine.
